A Day In The Life Of A King's College CompSci #4 (ADITLOAKCCS)

As Salamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh World!

I know I’m bit behind on this series since I’m doing day 4’s blog now when I’m on day 6. But fear not, the first week presented quite a few obstacles which have now been overcome so my schedule is a bit clearer.

Speaking of schedules and obstacles, I emailed the Computer Science department if I could change my timetable and they were having none of it. I only asked to change a practical and a tutorial for very good reasons, or at least I thought.

Apparently, (and this probably applies to all universities) your timetable can only be changed in extenuating circumstances such as religious reasons or care commitments towards family so for obvious reasons, my explanation about it being more efficient and not to mention cheaper for me to go 3 days out of 5 instead of the whole 5 was rejected.

Anyway, on to the actual events of day 5. The day’s start was the latest in the whole week which was a plus since it was Friday. Initially however, we were to have yet another induction lecture for an hour on the course at 2pm which was rescheduled to 3pm. Sounds good right? Wrong, since after this induction lecture followed a 2 hour lecture on Foundations of Computing between 4-6pm.

The induction lecture was primarily about assessments, examinations, the consequences of failure and of course, plagiarism and collusion. Understandably, fair warning is necessary to every freshman but some of the measures taken against students who engage in such practices were quite unpleasant indeed.

Regardless, I wasn’t too attentive to every detail but just focused enough so I had all the needed info to answer the compulsory quiz on the university’s “moodle” afterwards. When the lecture finished, a 10 minute break as usual was given before the 2 hour lecture that followed.

Again, doing A level Computer Science can go a long way in a Computer Science degree (especially in Year 1) so most of the stuff mentioned was synonymous to A level content. The lecture finished about 15 minutes early despite the amount of content covered but I’m not one to complain.

That’s all for today, be sure to check out Day 5 tomorrow InShaAllah!

Hope this helps!
